Amadores Beach

We arrived here in time for a spectacular sunset, as you can see. The whole place turned a burnt orange colour. It really was beautiful. And very romantic.

The locals told us that Amadores is one of their favourite beaches. It is not home to huge hotels and apartments in the same way as many other resorts. Instead, it serves a beach to go to for the day. The islanders love it because it is not covered in tourists and the inevitable British and German bars, restaurants and clubs. They also love the fact that you can easily park here. One Canarian guy told us that when he comes here, he likes to close his eyes and pretend that he is in the Caribbean! Funny isn't it? We like to lie back and close our eyes and imagine we're in the Canaries…

Amadores is a totally man made beach and its calm, clear waters are protected from the ocean by an almost circular harbour wall. That, and its golden sands make it ideal for small children. There is a good range of bars, restaurants and a couple of beach shops here. Apparently ball games and radios are not allowed on the beach (Hooray!) but by the time we arrived there, nearly everyone else had gone, so we can't vouch for this.

Between Puerto Rico and Puerto Mogán lies another glorious man-made beach, Playa de los Amadores, which can also be reached on a 20 min walk on a cliff-top path from the beach of Puerto Rico.



This extensive bay, well protected from the ocean, boasts an 800 m (0.5 miles) stretch of beach with golden sands and crystal clear waters.



This is certainly one of our favourite beaches. No ball games or radios are allowed and there is a good assortment of bars and restaurants directly at the rear of the sanded area.



This beach provides excellent conditions for small children … but also for the romantic – otherwise it wouldn't be called 'the lovers' beach' (Playa de los Amadores)!
