Roque Nublo, Gran Canaria
VR Canaries - virtual tour of the Canary Islands

Roque Nublo Report and Review
Gran Canaria, Canary Islands Tour.
Gran Canaria Location and directions map : Roque Nublo, you can CLICK and DRAG on the map.

Roque Nublo Roque Nublo means "rock cloud". It is an 80m high monolith, standing on top of the second highest mountain in Gran Canaria, at 1817m. (Pico de las Nieves is the highest at 1942m).

From the road, it looks impressive and, like us, you could be misled into thinking that it would be an easy and relatively short amble up to the top. Well, don't say I didn't warn you. It is a PROPER walk, as my Lake District friends would call it; it will make you puff and pant. Not to be done in beach sandals and your best frock. Not really to be done carrying a tripod either, but we did.

It was, however, well worth it. What a fantastic view and a truly beautiful place. The rock formations are magnificent. One looks like an angel towering over the valley. The other is a huge great finger, pointing up to the sky. It's difficult to get an idea of scale from the photos.

Just remember that you are nearly twice as high as the highest mountain in England. And these rocks stand about 80m high, perched on the top of the summit. Put on your boots and hat, take a back pack and plenty of water. Then go and be impressed.
