Viewpoint on the road to Veneguera

This was out first foray into the mountainous roads of Gran Canaria and it soon assured us that driving in the interior of the island is not for the faint hearted.

The views are, as you can see, spectacular. The roads are equally... interesting. They are well made, but have to navigate seriously steep-sided mountains. They do this by being a series of hairpin bends. The added interest comes from the innumerable groups of cyclists who also love the scenery, but who can keep car drivers at bay for miles upon miles, until you find a patch of road where you dare over take. So.. sit back.. chill… enjoy the view. As you can see, it's worth it.
Many of the rocks in this area have a vivid green colour, presumably copper?


We didn't actually make Veneguera itself, but there stopped instead by an interesting roadside bar cum shop, which sold us interesting nuts, fruits and ice cream.
