The dunes are protected by a nature reserve but can still be accessed by tourists to indulge in all manner of activities such as horse riding and even camel riding. Keeping your flip-flops on is definitely advised as the sand can become very hot, even during the winter.
Certain areas within the dunes are designated as naturist zones and nude sunbathing is allowed within these areas. There is also the Maspalomas golf course behind the dunes, the largest course on the island. The Maspalomas sand dunes can also be reached on foot from Playa del Ingles and Meloneras resorts.
