Two particular features of Gran Canaria Island are evident from this shot; first of all is the beautiful rugged countryside found throughout the interior, the second is a rather striking rock formation. Although many visitors to the Canaries are mainly here to enjoy the sun, sea and sand type of holiday, the interior is also a haven for wildlife lovers and fans of outdoor activities such as walking and hiking.
If you do choose to walk the Roque Nublo trails, you're sure to come across the Monk; a rock formation which looks surprisingly like a hooded monk bowed in prayer. In Spanish, this is El Fraile and one of the unique landmarks of Gran Canaria.
