Puerto Rico - Harbour "There are lots of water sports and excursions to be had here. We went out for a couple of hours, dolphin spotting and had a great time. We saw quite a few dolphins and really enjoyed ourselves..."
Shopping Centre - Las Burras "Climb ever skywards up the wide stairways, or take the mechanised elevator to be swept towards the heavens from the Victoria Car hire office, where Roger lazily swats a fly against a slightly faded, laminated photograph of a 1997 Fiat Punto..."
Maspalomas, Playa del Ingles Beach "A huge expanse of flat sand, which seems to go on forever, backed by a dazzling array of bars, cafes, restaurants, shops, hotels, villas: you name it. You can do anything here, from riding on a banana boat, to paragliding or having a tattoo!.."

It's a big island – where should you start?
We suggest that first, you consider the kind of holiday you want.
The All-Night Party Animal Holiday
Gran Canaria is made for you! Try the biggest resort: Playa del Ingles for wild nights and lazy days. This is the place for the ultimate beach holiday. Right next door is Maspalomas beach with its famously beautiful sand dunes. This is a really popular resort for the gay scene and naturists too. And if you are a shopaholic, you'll find plenty to tempt you here – try one of the shopping centres, such as the Yumbo Centre or Kasbah Centre. These are also the spots for the hottest night clubs.
The beaches of Gran Canaria are second to none – huge expanses of golden sand and warm, sparkling sea will keep your youngsters happy all day. You'll find a huge range of watersports, boat trips and great shops here too. Resorts such as Puerto Rico and Bahia Beach are ideal for families who are looking for something to do in the evening as well – there are many pubs which have entertainment laid on, such as karaoke, discos and quizzes. We found plenty of nightclubs too, so we reckon the whole family can be kept happy!

Romantic Holidays for Couples
Pretty Puerto Mogan is one of the most popular spots for those who don't want to party all night, but simply enjoy a beautiful beach and a good choice of places to eat and drink in the evening. The harbour is particularly attractive, with its waterways and marina. This is the perfect choice if you want to unwind, relax and soak up some well-deserved sunshine. We also thought Amadores Beach was rather romantic and gorgeous too!
Walking and Exploring Holidays
Not many holiday-makers ever venture further than their resort, unless it is to go on a boat trip to another resort or to spot whales and dolphins. Those who take a car trip inland are often amazed at the beauty of this island away from the busy sea-side resorts (although we should warn you that many of the roads are steep and challenging...). The mountains of the interior are breath-taking (see Pico de las Nieves). There are many trails and footpaths in this spectacular scenery (see Roque Nublo) and the views are magnificent! (See Mirador de Balcon) Other interesting places to explore are the attractive fishing village of Agaete in the North West, the picturesque mountain village of Fataga, or the windsurfer's choices: Pozo Izquierdo and Bahia Beach Club.
Gran Canaria, beaches and resorts - off the beaten track...
Of course, our VR Tour takes you to many other resorts – such as San Agustin, close to Playa del Ingles, but a bit more relaxed, Patalavaca Beach near Puerto Rico, but again less developed, Playa Taurito, which had an "atmosphere" all of its own when we visited..., Arinaga, a great little traditional Canarian town making few concessions to visitors, upmarket Playa del Aguila and Morro Besudo, in the Bahia Feliz area, or quiet, undeveloped Playa del Cura and Arguineguin.
