Chapter 306: My Heart Rises to My Throat
Chapter 306: My Heart Rises to My Throat
Chu Tian was getting more and more excited, and he felt like he had discovered some incredible secret. He continued to explore the factory, hoping to find more clues.
In a corner, he found a loose brick. He pushed hard and the brick caved inward, revealing a dark hole.
Chu Tian's heartbeat quickened. He took out his cell phone, turned on the flashlight, and carefully shone it into the cave entrance. The entrance was very narrow, only enough for one person to pass through. It was pitch black inside, and nothing could be seen clearly.
"Do you want to go in and take a look?" Chu Tian hesitated. He knew it was dangerous, but curiosity eventually overcame fear.
He took a deep breath, bent down and crawled into the cave. The cave was very damp, and the air was filled with the smell of soil. He crawled forward along the narrow passage, feeling like a mouse crawling into a hole in the ground.
After climbing about ten meters, the passage suddenly became wider. Chu Tian stood up and used a flashlight to illuminate the surrounding environment. He found himself in an underground tomb.
The tomb is not big, with four walls made of blue bricks, and a stone coffin in the middle. The surface of the stone coffin is carved with exquisite patterns, and it looks very old.
Chu Tian's heart beat faster, and he felt as if he had really discovered an ancient tomb. He slowly approached the sarcophagus, wanting to take a closer look at the pattern on it.
Suddenly, he heard a slight sound of footsteps behind him. He turned around and shone his flashlight in the direction of the sound.
In the light of the flashlight, he saw a figure standing at the entrance of the tomb. The figure was tall and burly, wearing black clothes and a mask on his face, so his face could not be seen clearly.
Chu Tian's heart suddenly rose to his throat. He instinctively sensed danger. He clenched the pottery shard in his hand, ready to fight back at any time.
"Who are you?" Chu Tian asked bravely.
The figure did not answer, but walked slowly towards him.
Chu Tian felt his breathing becoming rapid. He stared at the figure closely, his palms full of sweat.
The figure came closer and closer, and Chu Tian finally saw the mask on his face. It was a hideous ghost mask with red light flashing in the eyes, which looked very scary.
Chu Tian took a step back in fright, and the pottery shard in his hand fell to the ground.
The figure stopped in front of him and let out a low laugh.
"You...what do you want to do?" Chu Tian asked tremblingly.
The figure did not answer, but slowly reached out and took off the mask on his face.
The moment he saw that face, Chu Tian's pupils suddenly contracted and his whole body froze in place.
Under the mask was a familiar face—it was actually his bad friend Li Fei who had skipped classes to hang out with him!
Chu Tian was stunned, his mind went blank. He never thought that he would meet Li Fei here, and in such a strange way.
"Li Fei? What...what are you doing?" Chu Tian asked stutteringly, his voice trembling slightly with nervousness.
Li Fei grinned, revealing a row of white teeth, but this smile seemed particularly eerie in the dim tomb, coupled with his previous mysterious attire.
"Surprised, brother?" Li Fei's voice carried a hint of teasing.
"What a surprise! You scared me to death!" Chu Tian cursed angrily, feeling shocked and angry.
"Don't be angry, I just wanted to play a joke on you." Li Fei said, walked up and patted Chu Tian on the shoulder.
Chu Tian shook his hand off, "Are you kidding? Do you know that you almost scared me to death?"
"Haha, coward." Li Fei laughed loudly, and his laughter echoed in the tomb, sounding particularly harsh.
Chu Tian glared at him, still a little scared. He then noticed that the black clothes Li Fei was wearing were actually ancient clothes, and they looked very good.
"Why are you wearing this?" Chu Tian asked puzzledly.
Li Fei smiled mysteriously. "Secret." He pointed to the sarcophagus in the middle of the tomb. "Aren't you curious about what's inside?"
Chu Tian then remembered the sarcophagus. He had just been frightened by Li Fei and had forgotten about it. Now that he had calmed down, his curiosity started to play tricks on him again.
"What...will be inside?" Chu Tian asked hesitantly.
Li Fei did not answer, but walked to the sarcophagus and pushed the lid open with force.
"Creaky--" With a sharp friction sound, the lid of the sarcophagus slowly opened, and a gust of dusty air blew in.
Chu Tian held his breath and stared at the inside of the sarcophagus nervously.
Inside the sarcophagus, there lay a skeleton, wearing gorgeous clothes and a jade pendant on his chest, looking like a person of high status.
"Wow, there really is an ancient tomb!" Chu Tian exclaimed, his fear replaced by excitement. He walked to the sarcophagus and carefully observed the bones and burial objects inside.
Li Fei also came over and pointed at the jade pendant on the skeleton's chest and said, "This jade pendant looks good. It's worth a lot of money, right?"
Chu Tian rolled his eyes at him, "Can you stop thinking about money? This is a cultural relic, understand?"
"What's wrong with cultural relics? Can't they be sold for money?" Li Fei retorted, "Maybe we can even make a fortune from them!"
Chu Tian shook his head helplessly, too lazy to argue with him. He carefully observed the jade pendant and found some strange patterns engraved on it, which were very similar to the patterns on the pottery fragments he picked up in the factory.
"This jade pendant..." Chu Tian was about to say something when he suddenly heard a noisy sound coming from outside the tomb.
"Someone is coming!" Li Fei's face changed and he said quickly, "Let's go!"
Chu Tian also realized that something was wrong and followed Li Fei to run towards the entrance of the tomb.
As soon as the two men came out of the cave, they saw a group of people holding flashlights walking towards them.
"It's a staff member of the scenic area!" Chu Tian recognized the leader at a glance. He was the captain of the scenic area security team.
"It's over now!" Li Fei cursed in a low voice.
When the security captain saw them, he immediately shouted, "Who are you? What are you doing here?"
Chu Tian and Li Fei looked at each other and understood in their hearts that this could not be explained.
"Run!" Li Fei shouted, turned around and ran down the mountain.
Chu Tian didn't have time to think too much and ran wildly along with Li Fei.
Upon seeing this, the security captain immediately led his men to chase after him.
"Stop! Don't run!" the security captain shouted while chasing.
Chu Tian and Li Fei were running wildly on the mountain road, and the shouting behind them was getting closer and closer.
Suddenly, Li Fei slipped and fell to the ground.
"Li Fei!" Chu Tian quickly stopped and wanted to help him up.
"Don't worry about me, just go away!" Li Fei pushed Chu Tian's hand away and urged.
Chu Tian hesitated for a moment, but finally gritted his teeth, turned around and continued to run away.
He knew that if he was caught, the consequences would be disastrous.
He ran desperately, the wind whistling in his ears and the shouting behind him becoming increasingly distant.
He didn't know how long he had been running or where he was running to.
He didn't stop until he was exhausted and could no longer run, gasping for breath.
He looked around and found himself in an unfamiliar forest. It was quiet except for the rustling of leaves in the wind.
He didn't know what happened to Li Fei, nor did he know what to do.
He felt a deep sense of despair.
