Chapter 1371 Delivery
Chapter 1371 Delivery
Lin Yiwan reached out and pulled her up: "There were too many bandits. It's already not easy for you to fight your way out. How are you? Did you encounter any danger on the way here?"
Zi'er nodded: "Yes, it was because we interrogated the last few bandits that we learned you and the master ran in this direction!"
Lin Yiwan frowned and pondered; "My maternal grandfather must have been captured by them. The Wolf Head Gang is hiding deep in the mountains, and they are really not easy to deal with!"
Zi'er lowered her voice and said, "Madam, I have a plan. When I interrogated the bandits, one of them said that their leader's wife suddenly had a difficult childbirth and needed to call a doctor into the mountain. Perhaps we can pretend to be doctors and go in to find out the news!"
Lin Yiwan immediately thought it was indeed a good idea. Since her uncle was injured, she decided to let him rest at the mountain temple first.
She instructed Lin Ran to take good care of his injuries, and then led Zi'er down the mountain.
The two first rented a house to live in, and then had a hunter spread the word that she knew medicine.
The next day, she was greeted by several strangers.
The leader was very strong, with a pair of eyes that held a terrifying sharpness.
Zi'er seemed very scared; she trembled and shielded Lin Yiwan behind her.
She asked in a panic, "Who are you people?"
The burly man at the head of the group didn't speak, but instead used his hawk-like eyes to sized up Zi'er and Lin Yiwan behind her. When his gaze swept over Lin Yiwan's plain clothes and the ordinary wooden hairpin in her hair, his brows furrowed almost imperceptibly.
The two henchmen following behind him couldn't hold back any longer. One of them, a man with triangular eyes, stepped forward and shouted gruffly, "Enough nonsense! We are from the Wolf Head Gang. We heard there's a doctor nearby who knows medicine, so we've come to invite you up the mountain to treat our gang leader's wife!"
Zi'er trembled again in fright, instinctively stepping in front of Lin Yiwan to shield herself, her voice trembling with tears: "We're just ordinary women, how could we know any medical skills? You must have the wrong person."
The triangular-eyed man sneered and reached out to grab Zi'er's arm. "The hunters down the mountain said it themselves. They said you treated their injuries a few days ago. What else could you be but doctors? If you know what's good for you, come with us. If you dare to play tricks, you'll lose your lives!"
Lin Yiwan stepped out from behind Zi'er at the opportune moment, her face showing just the right amount of fear, yet she managed to maintain a semblance of composure. She curtsied to the burly man at the head of the group and said, "Good sir, please calm down. I do have some medical knowledge, but I have never delivered a baby before, and I'm afraid I might jeopardize the important matter of the gang leader's wife."
The burly man then spoke, his voice cold and authoritative: "Enough talk. Our leader's wife is in critical condition. We have no choice but to try anything. Come with us!"
After saying that, he waved his hand, and two henchmen stepped forward and grabbed Lin Yiwan's arms on the left and right.
Zi'er tried to step forward to stop him, but was shoved aside by the triangular-eyed man. She stumbled and bumped into the door frame, wincing in pain. Her eyes instantly reddened, and she choked out, "Madam!"
Lin Yiwan glanced back at her, her eyes carrying a hint of barely perceptible reassurance, before being pushed and shoved out of the courtyard by the two henchmen.
A simple carriage was parked outside the door, and a faint smell of hay filled the carriage. After Lin Yiwan was pushed into the carriage, the door was locked from the outside, leaving only a small crack through which she could barely see the outside.
Lin Yiwan quickly said, "Could you bring my little maid with you? She can be my helper!"
The burly man turned his head and glanced at Zi'er, a sinister smile flashing across his face.
He nodded without hesitation: "Yes!"
He thought to himself, "Although she's thin, she's very pretty. Once we get into the mountains, she won't have a choice."
The horse-drawn carriage wheels rolled and bumped along the way as it headed into the mountains.
Lin Yiwan sat in the carriage, her fingers gently stroking the silver needle hidden in her sleeve, pondering to herself. The Wolf Head Gang had been entrenched in these deep mountains for many years, and the government's several attempts to suppress them had all failed, demonstrating the strength of their stronghold and the severity of their defenses.
If it weren't for the opportunity presented by the gang leader's wife's difficult childbirth, it would have been virtually impossible for them to sneak in.
It's just that they don't know if the gang leader's wife is having a difficult childbirth. If it's a trap set by the other side, then their trip up the mountain is like lambs to the slaughter.
But she had no choice. In order to rescue her grandfather, she had no choice but to knowingly walk into danger.
About an hour later, the carriage slowly came to a stop.
The car door was opened, and blinding sunlight streamed in, causing Lin Yiwan to squint instinctively.
After her eyes adjusted to the light, she could finally see what was in front of her. There stood a tall mountain stronghold, its gate made of huge bluestones with three powerful characters carved on it: Wolf Head Gang.
Several ruthless bandits, each wielding a sharp blade, stood on either side of the gate. They looked fierce and menacing, their eyes scanning the surroundings warily.
The burly man at the head of the group walked up to her and said in a deep voice, "Once inside, speak less and do more. If you dare to look around or ask questions, don't blame me for being ruthless with my blade!"
Lin Yiwan nodded and replied softly, "I understand."
The burly man snorted with satisfaction and led her and Zi'er into the village.
Passing through the village gate, a completely different scene unfolds inside. Along the cobblestone road, there are many wooden houses built in a staggered manner. Occasionally, you can see a few men dressed in short, tight-fitting clothes walking by. When they see the strong man, they all bow and greet him, calling him "Second Master".
Lin Yiwan's heart skipped a beat. It turned out that the burly man in the lead was actually the second-in-command of the Wolf Head Gang.
It seems the other party is really anxious to invite her up the mountain this time, even the second-in-command has personally intervened.
The group walked through several alleyways and finally stopped in front of a relatively exquisite wooden house.
Two anxious old women stood guard outside the wooden house. When they saw the second-in-command bringing Lin Yiwan over, one of the women rushed forward and said urgently, "Second-in-command, you're finally back! The chief's wife has been in pain for a day and a night. The midwife said the baby is breech and she might not be able to save it!"
The second-in-command's face darkened, and he shouted at Lin Yiwan, "What are you all standing there for? Get inside now!"
Lin Yiwan composed herself and stepped into the wooden house. The house was filled with a strong smell of blood and herbs. A woman dressed in a brocade dress was lying on the bed, her face pale, covered in sweat, her lips bitten until they bled, and screams of pain escaped her throat, sending chills down one's spine.
A white-haired midwife was anxiously pacing around the bed. When she saw Lin Yiwan enter, she rushed forward as if she had seen a savior and grabbed her hand: "Doctor, you've finally come! Please save the lady!"
Lin Yiwan shook off her hand, quickly walked to the bedside, and reached out to feel the woman's pulse. The pulse was erratic, and the breathing was weak; it was indeed a sign of a difficult labor.
She frowned and said to the midwife and the maid beside her, "What are you all standing there for? Quickly boil water, and prepare clean strips of cloth and scissors!"
