Chapter 1953 Making trouble
Chapter 1953 Making trouble
It was already late at night, and the two returned to the inn to rest. They were so tired that they fell into a deep sleep soon.
Chen Changli and Wan Shufang slept until the next morning, when someone knocked urgently on the door of the room. They woke up slowly and heard Li Yao's anxious voice outside the door.
"My Lord, Madam, something bad has happened. Someone is causing trouble at the charity hall!"
Upon hearing the news, the two men almost jumped up from the bed, put on their robes, and strode over to open the door.
What caught her eyes was Li Yao's anxious face. Wan Shufang straightened her sleeves. Fortunately, she and Chen Changli were too tired yesterday and almost slept in their clothes, so she could get dressed quickly now.
"What happened?" She poured Li Yao a glass of water, and after everyone had caught their breath, she listened to Li Yao.
"Sir, Madam, there is a disturbance at the Charity Hall. The magistrate has gone there, but he couldn't suppress those people, so he asked me to come to you quickly."
"Is there such a thing?" Wan Shufang frowned subconsciously. The magistrate and Li Yao couldn't suppress it together. This matter might not be that simple.
"Let's go to the charity hall. We'll talk as we walk. Do you know who is causing the trouble?"
"They are the people of the Charity Hall..."
The three of them rushed all the way without stopping. When they finally arrived at the Charity Hall, they saw a crowd surrounding Caixia. Yang wanted to drive them out.
Seeing those people pushing others, Chen Changli frowned and shouted angrily: "Stop!"
"The original purpose of establishing the charity hall was to take in the poor. You are homeless just like her, so why are you forcing her to leave?"
Hearing Chen Changli's questioning, everyone was obviously a little embarrassed, their faces turned pale and red, but after seeing Caixia, the only bit of guilt disappeared, and their expressions became fierce.
"My benefactor, Caixia is an evil star. We don't want to be implicated by her. Anyone can come to the charity hall, but not her."
"Yes, it can't be her."
"Living with a star of destiny, I'm afraid I'll be the next to die."
Everyone was criticizing her, and their spit almost drowned Caixia. Wan Shufang pulled the timid little girl behind her to protect her.
"I founded the charity hall. Every brick and tile, vegetable and food here were paid for by me." She said in a cold voice, with a cold face: "The purpose of my founding the charity hall is to help the poor. As long as the requirements are met, anyone can come."
"To put it bluntly, you have all received my kindness, but now you are questioning my decision. Your difficulties have been solved, but you want to embarrass others. Don't you think this is too selfish?"
After saying this, Wan Shufang glanced around and saw the people lowering their heads. She felt ashamed, but she couldn't resist the fear of being doomed, so she didn't compromise.
Perhaps seeing their thoughts, Wan Shufang took a deep breath and said, "It is nonsense to say that one's father and mother are unlucky. Everyone will die. If someone in the family dies, should we blame the only surviving descendant?"
"If you were Caixia's parents, how would you feel if your children were implicated after your death?"
After two questions were asked in succession, the entire charity hall fell silent. No one spoke, and the atmosphere became solemn in an instant.
After a long silence, Dandan and her grandmother suddenly squeezed out of the crowd, and the little girl spoke crisply, breaking the silence: "I support my sister."
"There must be some misunderstanding. Sister Caixia is not a bad person. Everyone had many misunderstandings about me before. Aren't they all resolved now?"
Everyone knew that Dandan had previously scammed people for money and was expelled by the townspeople.
But with the help of the charity hall, everyone understood that the little girl was just trying to save her grandmother and she didn't have a bad heart. Now, everyone looked at each other, all hesitant, but still didn't give in.
Seeing this, Wan Shufang's heart turned cold, and she immediately issued an order: "The Charity Hall belongs to me. If anyone can't tolerate Caixia, then leave the Charity Hall on their own."
Hearing this, everyone was shocked. They were all homeless people, and if they left the charity hall, they would have to go back to their previous lives. But seeing that Wan Shufang had made up her mind, they immediately lowered their heads and dared not say anything.
"Since no one has any objections, let's all go. Caixia will still stay in the same room as yesterday."
The crowd dispersed, and no matter how reluctant they were, they didn't dare to chase Caixia away. After everyone left, Caixia knelt on the ground with her knees weak and kowtowed to Wan Shufang.
"Thank you, thank you for helping me and saving me again." Caixia's eyes were filled with tears. She kowtowed several times regardless of Wan Shufang's attempt to stop her.
Wan Shufang finally helped the person up, only to feel that she was made of bones, covered with a thin layer of skin, with almost no flesh.
"Caixia, you..." She paused and considered her words before Wan Shufang continued, "What happened in the past? How did your parents die?"
The title of "The Star of Misfortune" could not have been earned overnight. The causes of death of the two men must be different and related to Caixia, which is why people blamed Caixia.
When she heard Wan Shufang mention her parents, Caixia couldn't help but shed tears and trembled: "I, I don't know either. I only know that my parents died strangely. Many people said that it was me who brought bad luck upon them."
"They kept calling me a disaster star, saying that I killed my parents and that no one loved me. Maybe I really deserved it."
As soon as she finished speaking, Caixia fell into a warm embrace. Wan Shufang hugged her and patted her back gently, but her eyes were extremely cold.
She had guessed something. Caixia was young when the incident happened. After hearing people scolding her for a long time, she gradually came to believe that it was her fault that led to the death of her parents.
Feeling the weak body twitching in her arms, Wan Shufang breathed a sigh of relief and comforted softly: "Caixia, it's okay, it's all over."
As he spoke, a figure suddenly flew in from outside the charity hall and landed in front of Chen Changli and Wan Shufang. He looked respectful and half-knelt to salute them.
Recognizing that it was An Qi who saved her yesterday, Caixia's face lit up with joy. She raised her head from Wan Shufang's arms and thanked him quietly: "Thank you for saving me yesterday."
"No problem." The secret guard responded calmly. After meeting Chen Changli's gaze, he immediately said, "Master, Madam, I have found out that Miss Caixia's surname is Chen. She originally came from a wealthy family. She is from the famous and wealthy Chen family in this area."
"Her parents loved each other very much, but for some unknown reason, they both died suddenly in an accident. People outside said that Miss Caixia killed them. After the Chen couple died, she was called a disaster star and kicked out of the house. Everything in the house was taken care of by my uncle's family."
An Qi's words made Chen Changli and Wan Shufang, who were used to fighting, suddenly realize that something was wrong. They looked at each other and saw suspicion in each other's eyes.
Wan Shufang did not tell Caixia about her guess, but patted her on the shoulder and gently reminded her: "Caixia, no one in the charity hall will chase you away, so just stay here and have a good rest."
Hearing this, Caixia nodded obediently. She also knew some of what An Qi had found out, so she didn't ask any further questions. After saying goodbye to Wan Shufang, she left and returned to her room.
