Chapter 383: The Court and the Visiting “Lamb” (Part 3)
"Mr. Pearson, you've done a great job. When I saw you being sued in court, I thought you were the kind of person who... did bad things behind the scenes." Conan lowered his head in shame and slapped himself in his heart.
Mr. Pearson has sacrificed so much for the children, and I actually doubted him. Damn me!
"And this is the main reason why you are being brought to court this time, Pearson." The doctor suddenly opened the door and walked in.
"Ms. Dale, I...wasn't the reason I was sued in court because those real estate developers said I was taking over the business with hostile intent?"
"Oh, Dr. Jones is here too," the lawyer sneered. "It seems you've brought the latest news. Tell me, what are your thoughts?"
The doctor glanced at the lawyer. "Mr. Riley, I hope you remember that you are here alive because we endured that painful experiment together, not because of your own abilities. Your mediocre performance in the research team is not enough to sustain your pursuit of revenge."
"Tsk." The lawyer snorted. "You guys are in the logistics team, so you don't have to worry about people competing for your positions. Unlike me, I have to occasionally work part-time in the operations team."
[Philanthropist: Law, you will not be intimidated. The responsibility of saving people from Mr. Philip is now on you.]
[Lawyer: Listen, is this human language?]
[Antique Dealer: Mr. Philip now carries three Berserkers just to play with Lightning Whip.]
[Wax Artist: Fun.]
[Forward: Uh, how come Mr. Philip has developed some side effects from kickboxing?]
"I almost forgot. A certain great lawyer originally relied on his excellent eloquence to get a place in the scientific research team. Now his advantage in the research team is that he has the best physical strength." The philanthropist did not miss the opportunity to mock the lawyer.
"Is it so glorious for you to be in the patrol group? I really..." The lawyer wanted to continue but saw the doctor's stern gaze.
"Have you two had enough of arguing?" The doctor grabbed the philanthropist's right ear with his left hand and the lawyer's left ear with his right. "If you keep arguing, you might as well just file for a dismissal!"
"Emily, how are Mr. Pearson and Mr. Riley doing?" The gardener suddenly opened the door of the room, followed by the factory manager.
As soon as the factory director entered the door, he glanced at the lawyer and the philanthropist. The lawyer silently covered his ears and stood aside. The philanthropist followed suit and stood side by side with the lawyer.
"Mr. Leo, and little Emma, you are here. I was just talking about them." The doctor first looked at the two timid people, then turned to the gardener and smiled.
"Kreacher and Freddy, put your grudges aside for now. We have to act together again. The most important thing now is not even to win the lawsuit, but to get out of this storm unscathed." The factory director looked at the two of them and solemnly explained the situation.
Conan asked curiously, "Uncle Leo, is there someone behind this lawsuit?"
"Melody family!" Conan immediately thought of the only photographer who might be standing behind the scenes and targeting others.
"That's not right. I haven't offended him. I have always remained neutral. My goal is to make money, buy a house and take care of children in peace." The philanthropist scratched his head in confusion.
"Have you forgotten that you are the sponsor behind Miss An's church? That huge charity organization is supported entirely by you." The doctor held his forehead helplessly.
"But hasn't Miss An basically remained neutral? She and her church have never participated in internal strife."
"Not anymore."
"What?"
"Miss An snatched away Professor Lorenz, who had long been targeted by the Melody family, some time ago. Not only that, the 'mechanic' under Dexi Melody also set up his own faction with the current head of the Baril family." The doctor explained to the philanthropist.
The philanthropist shouted indignantly, "What? So he's blaming me? I was wondering what's going on with this lawsuit. It seemed like those guys were planning to drop the case due to lack of evidence, but now they're turning against me and saying it was Melody who was behind it."
"That's understandable. After all, they've lost several researchers. Even the Melody family would find it hard to accept such a price."
"Hmph, he deserves it." The philanthropist was about to curse a few more times, but then he shut his mouth again as if he had thought of something. After a while, he asked, "Well, lawyer, I don't think you can win even if you are eloquent."
"I knew coming to help you would be bad luck," the lawyer complained, tapping his head. "I'll first figure out how to stop the damage. Even if the judge is on the other side, I have to find a way to turn the situation around a bit."
"Team Thistlethorn will never give up!" The gardener cheered everyone on.
"The Thorn of the Thistle? That name sounds familiar. I remember Miss Emma calling Mr. Neb Mr. Blue Thistle." Conan pondered. "I think Uncle Orpheus also has a book with that name."
But before Conan could think for long, the door of the lounge was knocked again: "Hello, is anyone there?"
"Please come in."
The door to the lounge opened, and a reporter walked in, wiping his camera lens. "This is Mr. Kreacher Pearson's lounge, right? I'm here to do some interviews."
"Ms. DeRose, no, Ms. Lamb?" The philanthropist showed a very surprised expression when she saw the reporter.
"I think I once interviewed you at the Baisha Street Orphanage." The reporter smiled politely.
"Tell me what you're here for. You don't look like an innocent 'lamb.'" The factory director moved in front of the gardener. "I hope you're not sent by Melody to gather intelligence."
"I inherited her way of thinking, so I don't think the master and I are on the same page. However, I'm hoping to gain more information about the 'nightmare,'" the reporter said, removing the film from his camera. "I can trade you with insider information about the Melody family."
"If you want information about 'Nightmare', you shouldn't come to us. As far as I know, 'Madame Scarlet' and 'Fool's Gold' are both closely related to 'Nightmare'. You can go and ask them." The factory director shook his head and rejected the information handed over by the reporter, which made Conan anxious.
"That's the internal information of the Melody family, Uncle Leo, why do you refuse it?" Conan really wanted to know what kind of information it was.
"Since she came directly to us instead of Madam Red or Fool's Gold, it proves that the information here isn't enough to convince them. This means we can obtain intelligence elsewhere," the factory director calmly analyzed. "You still have concerns, which is why you chose to come to us, who have always remained neutral."
"It's just as you said, Mr. 'Factory Director,'" the reporter said, looking somewhat dejected. "I can't find any allies to work with. Madam Red is more concerned about her nephew, and I can't force her. Fool's Gold is lukewarm and always avoids my information."
"Then why don't you go to Uncle Orpheus for help? You are a clone of Mrs. Delos, so you can tell him the news." Conan suggested.
"No, the name Delos is still too dangerous for a clone like me. I've come into contact with Mr. Orpheus several times, and I can sense that he's no ordinary person."
