Chapter 45 Mental Instability
Chapter 45 Mental Instability
"Don't let me find out who this guy called Spicy Beef is."
Ah Mang was furious, veins bulging on his forehead from his rage. "If this guy falls into my hands, I'll shove his head up his ass!"
"Alright, Ah Mang, calm down."
Ah Le, who looked like a high school student, offered a word of advice: "This guy just thinks it's pointless to say anything since we can't find him."
Ah Le looked at the last person in the room and said, "Xiao Liu, tell me about our guild's progress."
Xiao Liu, a seemingly shrewd young man, gave the two of them a fawning look before cautiously answering.
"Young Master Mang, Young Master Le, we have recruited seven players so far, and they have all moved into the villas that have been arranged for us."
After the last party, they have a very high level of trust in the guild.
However, there's one guy who's been obsessed with women lately, and he's been playing games much less.
"As long as they listen to you, that's fine." Ah Le smiled indifferently after hearing this. "Let them relax for a while, even if it costs a fortune to buy their bones."
Once we've recruited enough people, we can begin our plan. What do you say, Ah Mang?
His last words were to Ah Mang. After Ah Le finished speaking, Ah Mang's dark face finally broke into a smile.
"That's good news. In the real world, we don't lack money, so it doesn't matter if they spend some."
Ah Mang stood up and looked at Ah Le, "You're the smartest one. As long as we control these people, we can let them farm reputation."
We can quickly accumulate reputation simply by harvesting regularly.
As they talked, the three of them burst into laughter, with Ah Mang laughing especially heartily.
As Maroni's right-hand man, he has done all sorts of bad things in the underworld, and his reputation finally broke 100 points yesterday.
He added the attribute points he gained to his intelligence, and the wonderful feeling made him feel intoxicated.
"Ah Le, now that we have mastered 'fear,' why should we listen to Maroni?"
Ah Mang looked at Ah Le with a puzzled expression, "Why don't we just use 'fear' to directly control Gotham's underworld?"
If we can achieve this, our reputation will likely rise very quickly.
Ah Mang's words resonated with Xiao Liu, who also looked at Ah Le, though he dared not look directly at him.
"Gotham has more than just a police department; it also has Batman. This isn't a society governed by the rule of law."
Ah Le explained, "Maroney is deeply entrenched in Gotham. With him leading the way, we'll feel much less pressure."
Ah Mang nodded and took out a blue potion from behind him: "When will our operation begin?"
"immediately!"
...
Gotham's nightclubs are shrouded in an impenetrable, damp, and cold mist, like a piece of velvet soaked in ink, gently concealing sin and secrets.
In the last two weeks, Gotham seems to be back on track.
Although there are some cases on a regular basis, none of them can be considered major cases.
Batman often resolves problems before the police even have to get involved, so Levi has been having a very comfortable time lately.
Just when Li Wei thought today would be the same as usual, he ran into Gordon, who had a furrowed brow, at the office door.
Gordon held several files in his hand, muttering to himself, "This doesn't make sense. There must be some problem that's been overlooked..."
"Hey buddy, what's up? Maybe I can help."
Upon seeing Li Wei, Gordon relaxed and gestured for him to go into the office first.
"Take a look at the case file first, then we can talk."
Gordon handed the dossier to Levi, indicating that he should take a look first.
Without wasting words, Li Wei took the file and began to carefully read through it.
The files Gordon brought involved three people, all of whom were Maroney's men.
One was a thug in charge of smuggling at the docks, another was a gang accountant, and the last was Maroney's bodyguard.
If there's anything unusual about these three people, it's that they all came under police surveillance and then went insane.
The thugs are suspected of smuggling firearms, and the police have just obtained preliminary evidence.
Before the police could take any further action, the man was found shouting wildly in an empty alleyway.
According to witnesses, he was waving his hands wildly as if he were fighting against invisible venomous snakes, repeatedly shouting, "Don't bother me! There are so many venomous snakes!"
Gangster accountant, a shrewd and cautious middle-aged man.
He had just expressed his desire to cooperate with the police when, a few days later, he publicly set his clothes on fire in front of a bank in the city center.
He laughed wildly as he burned it, shouting, "Burn it! Otherwise they'll kill me!" When he was subdued, he was incoherent, drool dripping from the corner of his mouth, and all his former shrewdness had vanished.
Maroni's bodyguard was a two-meter-tall bald man who was being investigated by the police for his involvement in the murder of another gang member.
However, during one police patrol, he suddenly brandished a dagger and charged at the police car, yelling, "You are all devils! I'm going to kill you!"
Although he was eventually subdued by the police, the guy seemed to have developed mental problems.
All three of them were sent to Arkham Asylum.
The fact that Maroni's men were "mentally unstable" one after another was undoubtedly a serious problem.
"This is very abnormal." Gordon sat in his office chair at the police station, tapping his fingers on the table.
"These three are all Maroni's core subordinates. How could they suddenly all act out? But after examination, they were found to be genuinely acting, which makes it hard not to be suspicious."
His gaze fell on Li Wei across from him, his eyes filled with anticipation.
"Dude, I need your help." Gordon's tone was urgent. "I have a feeling something's fishy going on, but I can't find a way in."
"It is no coincidence that these three people suddenly went insane."
Levi paused for a moment, then looked up at Gordon. "Their 'abnormality' just happened to help Maroni get out of trouble. The thugs and bodyguards escaped the police pursuit, while the accountant was made an example of."
If there's a problem, it's very likely that it lies in the mental evaluation.
As he spoke, Li Wei opened the three files again, turning to the page for the mental evaluation on all of them.
When Li Wei looked at the three "mental disorder" assessment reports side by side, he quickly noticed something amiss.
All three reports were written by the same person—Jonathan Klein, a well-known psychology professor in Gotham and a psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum.
Upon seeing this somewhat familiar name, Li Wei felt a pang of anxiety, already having a vague idea of what was going on.
But to avoid any mishaps, he decided to be more careful.
"I need to access the complete medical records of these three people, as well as Klein's professional file and Arkham's accreditation process."
"No problem, I'll have someone take care of it right away." Gordon nodded in agreement, picked up the phone, and began making arrangements.
...
Under the Gotham night sky, a black figure moved like a ghost between the skyscrapers.
Batman lurked on the rooftop opposite the Maroney Mansion, his black cloak blending seamlessly into the night, his sharp eyes fixed on the mansion's entrance.
He had noticed the unusual activity during this period and had been tracking Maroni for several days in order to find out the reason.
At two o'clock in the morning, a black sedan silently drove out of Maroni's mansion.
Batman smiled slightly and followed silently.
