Chapter 46 Looking for Water

Old Luo gave Su Yue a sharp rap on the head, but judging from her lively spirit, she was perfectly fine. He then ladled out the cooked porridge and handed it to Su Yue, who was rubbing her head.

"You old man, you're being unreasonable. You can just drink porridge, but how can you hit someone? Humph!" He complained while drinking his porridge.

As evening approached, the narrow road came to an end. An old man and a young man watched the exit ahead, where large groups of migrants were resting, their mouths watering.

At the same time, not far away, an old woman slapped a younger woman across the face: "Eat, eat! How can you be so greedy? You barren hen! This is for my grandson! You'll choke to death, you little slut..."

The young woman who was being beaten didn't fight back. She just kept swallowing the egg in her mouth, afraid that if she didn't swallow it, her mother-in-law would take it out.

Su Yue and Old Man Luo had already gotten off the cart and squatted down to listen to what others were saying while watching the family gossip.

That family brought a lot of things; how could they bear to let their granddaughter starve to death?

The young woman, holding her baby in her arms, hid behind a tree and began to breastfeed.

The people around them started eating their dry rations, and because of the commotion earlier, no one seemed to notice that there were two extra people.

With nothing exciting to see, the two returned to the cart. Old Luo looked at the empty bucket and sighed.

"Old man, where are you going?" Su Yue hadn't dared to take water out of her spatial storage these past few days because Old Luo was around. She only remembered when Old Luo picked up the water bucket.

"There's no water left. I'll go look for a water source nearby," Old Luo said, and then he turned to leave.

Su Yue snatched the bucket from Old Luo and told him to watch the mule cart while she went to find it herself.

There isn't even a ditch around here. Didn't you see that group of refugees going out with empty buckets and coming back with empty buckets?

Old Luo didn't know if Su Yue was naive or had seen too much of the world, but her nonchalant attitude made him feel like he had wasted his time being so protective of her.
