Chapter 242: Murder

Chapter 242: Murder

Ji Tianzhuo wasn't completely drunk, so he replied, "Then tell me!"

Upon hearing that there was hope, Tian Cuiwei immediately said, "Kill them. I know there are many assassins in the martial arts world; as long as the price is right, it's fine."

Ji Tianzhuo shook his head. Tian Cuiwei said, "What? Scared?"

Ji Tianzhuo replied, "This is a capital offense. If we are found out, we will all be in deep trouble!"

Tian Cuiwei brainwashed him, saying, "As long as we are careful enough, nothing will go wrong. When we kill Ji Meiqing, everything will be under our control."

Ji Tianzhu thought for a moment and realized that you can't catch a wolf without risking your cub, so he agreed and added, "Kill Lu Yu too." Then the alcohol took effect and he fell asleep.

Upon hearing this, Tian Cuiwei thought to herself that she was willing to sacrifice everything for her own goals, even the person she deeply loved.

The first thing Ji Meiqing and Lu Yu did upon returning to Rongcheng was to visit Ji Tianci in prison. Ji Meiqing skillfully bribed the guard outside the gate. Seeing her so adept, Lu Yu asked, "How do you know so much about these things?"

Ji Meiqing answered truthfully, "This is all from what you learned while you were in jail last time. As for me, I've done this twice already, and both times it was for people who were wrongly accused." Ji Meiqing found it somewhat amusing.

But Lu Yu's face darkened. "I'm sorry. I've made you suffer." Because they were being taken to the place where Ji Tianci was being held, he didn't hold her in his arms, but instead tightened his grip on Ji Meiqing's hand.

"There's no such thing as hardship or not. As long as you're all safe and sound, that's all that matters. Besides, you're here with me this time, aren't you?"

"We're here, this is it. Time is limited, so hurry up." The gatekeeper finished his instructions and left.

The two men scanned the area but couldn't find Ji Tianci. Just as they were wondering if he was still there, their eyes were drawn to a person crouching in a corner, motionless.

Ji Meiqing tried calling out, "Tianci, Tianci, we've come to see you." The person visibly paused, then slowly raised their head. Seeing Ji Tianci's pale appearance, a result of neglecting his appearance for days and not eating or sleeping well, Ji Meiqing felt a pang of sadness. With the new prefect's permission, Ji Meiqing unlocked the door and let Ji Tianci out. She placed the food she had brought on the table and helped Ji Tianci sit down to eat.

Ji Meiqing said from the side, "Tianci, I'm sorry, I'm late and you've suffered."

Ji Tianci finished his meal and then repeated only one sentence: "Sister, I didn't poison you, you have to believe me."

"Of course I believe you, don't worry. It won't be long before I clear your name. I've already asked the man at the gate to take care of you. If anything happens, just tell him. Your job now is to take good care of yourself and not worry me." Actually, Ji Meiqing was relieved that they hadn't tortured Ji Tianci yet.

After settling Ji Tianci in, Ji Meiqing and Lu Yu headed to the restaurant. She sent a message by carrier pigeon to everyone who had worked at Yuanyang Tower. The message said that once they found a job, they would not be disturbed, and that everyone who had found a job should come back to work as soon as the restaurant reopened.

Strangely, the carriage had been traveling for quite some time; normally they would have arrived at the restaurant long ago. But now, she felt the area was becoming increasingly deserted. Peeking through the small curtain with suspicion, Lu Yu realized this wasn't the way to the restaurant and asked, "Master, where are we going?"

The driver stopped the carriage, took off his outer clothes, and Lu Yu immediately recognized him as an assassin. He said, "Where to? Go ask the King of Hell." Several throwing knives flew at him. Although Lu Yu was highly skilled in martial arts, he was worried about Ji Meiqing and afraid she would get hurt, so he couldn't concentrate on the fight. He then arranged for her to stay in the tree while he engaged the assassin in a fierce battle.

Ji Meiqing watched their fight with bated breath, but judging from the situation, she quickly realized that these were assassins sent by Ji Tianzhuo. That guy, he really couldn't hold back, actually sending assassins to kill them. How laughable, they didn't know Brother Lu's martial arts skills. But this was fine too, it provided further evidence.

This assassin was hired at a high price, so his martial arts skills were not weak. However, Lu Yu's martial arts skills were superior, and it didn't take long for the outcome to be decided. Lu Yu took out rope from the carriage and tied up the person he had captured.

They took him to the restaurant's kitchen, and after a combination of coercion and threats, the assassin finally confessed and signed a document on a piece of paper prepared by Ji Meiqing and Lu Yu. Instead of sending him to the authorities, they kept him locked up in the kitchen.

Ji Meiqing and Lu Yu took the blank sheet of paper with their fingerprints on it upstairs. Lu Yu asked, puzzled, "This paper has nothing written on it. What's the point of having him sign it?"

Ji Meiqing smiled slyly, "You don't understand, do you? He's already put his name on it, so whatever we write on it is what we want."

Lu Yu realized, "Oh, I see. I have to say, no one can keep up with your thought process."

Ji Meiqing took a bite of the apple. "I'll take that as a compliment!"

However, their joy was premature; the assassin was merely an appetizer. For the next week, wherever Ji Meiqing and Lu Yu went, they encountered assassins—people who wanted to kill them.

Although Lu Yu's presence prevented any major incidents, minor injuries still occurred over time. Ji Meiqing finally couldn't take it anymore. "No, I can't sit idly by anymore, I'm going to fight back!" She vented her anger by grabbing the assassin, pinching its ear and squeezing its flesh, shouting, "I'll teach you to kill me, I'll teach you to kill me, let's see if you dare mess with me again!" Lu Yu knew she was very angry, so he didn't stop her. He had a feeling that something was about to happen these past two days.

They had gathered enough evidence and were on their way to report to the authorities when trouble struck again. This assassin was no ordinary man; he had injured Lu Yu before kidnapping Ji Meiqing. Lu Yu quickly fell unconscious, leading the assassin to believe he was dead and thus refraining from killing him. Instead, the assassin, as instructed by his employer, bound Ji Meiqing and took her to the designated location.

Ji Meiqing was carried the whole way. She had been knocked unconscious, but the jostling woke her up. She didn't make a sound, but instead observed where he was taking her. This assassin was very skilled in martial arts; he had not only defeated Lu Yu, but now he could carry someone and run so fast. Calculating her chances of escape, which were almost zero, she gave up. She figured she could just deal with whatever came her way.
