Chapter 39: Seeking a Way Out
Chapter 39: Seeking a Way Out
Chapter Thirty-Nine: Seeking a Way Out
Seeing that it was still early, she wandered around the building a couple of times. There weren't many people around yet, so she strolled upstairs.
Ji Meiqing looked through each room one by one, and she had to admit there were quite a lot of rooms. Each room had a different style, and the last one was predominantly pink, with light pink gauze curtains fluttering gently. There was also a faint fragrance in the room, which smelled quite pleasant. Ji Meiqing took a few breaths and couldn't resist going in.
As soon as I stepped inside, a feeling of unfamiliarity washed over me.
"Who are you?" A voice suddenly came from the empty room. Ji Meiqing almost thought she had entered a haunted house, but she quickly realized what was going on.
The voice was very magnetic and pleasant to listen to. Combined with the fragrance in the room, it gave people a sense of peace.
But she felt there was something wrong with it, though she couldn't quite put her finger on it.
"Young lady, what brings you here so suddenly?"
Ji Meiqing was taken aback, then calmly said, "I didn't mean to come in, I'll leave now."
"Young lady, you've arrived. Take a good look around. Don't let this trip be in vain," the voice said again, and at the same time, the door behind her suddenly closed. Ji Meiqing glanced at it and then walked into the room. She knew that if she didn't take a look now, she wouldn't be able to go back.
However, living here, and that androgynous voice... everything seemed strange. Ji Meiqing walked inside, lifted the gauze curtain, and behind it was a screen. Before she could react, Ji Meiqing went over. When she saw a smooth, white body, she was immediately stunned.
"You little vixen, you've got some nerve. Daring to barge this way?" The man finally spoke, his brow showing no sign of the anxiety of being caught. Instead, he spoke to her calmly.
Ji Meiqing snapped out of her daze and instinctively tried to leave. She didn't know how he had appeared in front of her in an instant, or how he had managed to put his clothes on at the same time.
A strong, powerful hand blocked her path, pinning her against a wall. Ji Meiqing glanced at it cautiously. No one had ever pinned her against a wall in twenty or thirty years, yet today she had given away her first experience. Ji Meiqing felt a tremor in her heart.
"I don't know, sir..." She glanced at him, then closed her eyes and said, "Sir, you should put on some clothes; it's an eyesore."
After a while, she dared to open her eyes, one eye open, looking at the person who had approached her. In just a moment, her body reacted instinctively.
Caught off guard, the man was kicked. Taking advantage of this opportunity, Ji Meiqing slipped under his arm and launched a counterattack. The hand braced against the wall suddenly went limp, losing its strength, and the man's forehead slammed directly against the wall.
Ji Meiqing was afraid he would get angry, so she immediately left through the door.
The person behind him rubbed his dazed head and clutched his numb groin, unsure whether to be angry or amused. Did he really look so menacing, like he was about to devour someone?
Once the pain subsided a bit, he picked up the bronze mirror on the table and looked at himself for a long time. Reluctantly, he put the mirror down, touched his face, and felt quite pleased with himself.
Ji Meiqing ran straight out of there and stood at the entrance of the alley in the flower street, panting heavily.
After a while, she slowly walked back. Since she had nothing else to do, she went to the teahouse next door and sat for a while.
After waiting for what seemed like forever, they finally arrived. Ji Meiqing invited them to have some tea. Seeing the deep look in Ji Meiqing's eyes as she looked at the two of them, she asked curiously, "What's wrong? Did it go smoothly?"
"The official said there was no more room available."
"No place?" Ji Meiqing frowned. "That's impossible. Most government offices would reserve dozens of plots of land for other uses. How could there not be?" Ji Meiqing frowned, her doubts growing.
Widow Li and Li Ming both sighed, "Thank you both so much for last night. If it weren't for you, my daughter and I might have had to sleep on the streets."
"It's nothing. Let's go back first." Ji Meiqing chuckled twice, put aside her doubts, and led them back.
After returning to the Lu family home, Ji Meiqing recounted the incident to Lu Yu and then asked him a few questions. She didn't mention what happened at the brothel; she dared not speak of it.
"It's obvious someone's behind this. If we don't have enough money and power, there's nothing we can do. As for Aunt Li, someone is probably deliberately trying to make things difficult for them," Lu Yu analyzed.
Ji Meiqing turned her head to look at him, her gaze sweeping across his face before quickly looking away.
"It's the Qiu family." Ji Meiqing had identified the person, but the fact that they were working together in this matter left Ji Meiqing at a loss.
"Go and rest first, we'll see what happens later. There's always a way out, they'll all be alright."
Lu Yu comforted her, but his own expression was equally grave. The remaining issues couldn't be resolved without asking someone to help.
“You can ask Madam Hu. She has many influential people around her. If any of them whispers in her ear, this matter will probably be settled,” Lu Yu suddenly said.
Ji Meiqing was startled, but then exclaimed with delight, "Brother Lu's suggestion is excellent! How come I didn't think of that!"
She tilted her head and tapped it, wondering why she was so slow to react.
If we ask Aunt Hu for help with this matter, perhaps everything will fall into place naturally.
In the evening, Ji Meiqing changed into men's clothing. Dressed as a man, she lost some of her heroic air, but gained more of a scholarly air.
She went out with Lu Yu, who had also changed into a brocade robe. This was made for him by someone Ji Meiqing had asked her to make last time she went out; it cost a lot of money and had really pained her for a while.
However, seeing that Lu Yu was dressed like a wealthy young master, she was satisfied. Clothes, after all, have to be worn to bring out their inherent style.
Ji Meiqing looked at him with satisfaction for a while before leaving the courtyard with him.
The two entered the city with enough money in their pockets. Ji Meiqing booked two inn rooms in advance and paid them a small tip while they waited.
Once inside the brothel, Ji Meiqing immediately transformed into a different person, constantly urging Lu Yu to find two young girls.
She then entered Hu Mama's room. Ji Meiqing was dressed in men's clothing, and before leaving, she had specially drawn her eyebrows into sword-shaped eyebrows. Although she didn't look heroic, she at least highlighted her imposing presence.
Mrs. Hu did not recognize her immediately, but assumed that she was a customer who had come to see her, and became much more enthusiastic.
"Mama Hu." She grinned wickedly, ripped off the mustache at the corner of her mouth, then took off her hat and looked at her. "Mama Hu."
Upon seeing that it was Ji Meiqing, Hu's mother's expression immediately turned cold.
