Chapter 203 Farewell (2)
Chapter 203 Farewell (2)
Mrs. Hills' eyes were filled with despair as she stared at the fierce man before her. Fear surged through her like a tidal wave, taking over every corner of her mind.
Her plan was originally flawless, but now it has completely collapsed due to the current situation.
She cursed inwardly, never expecting these two law enforcement officers to be so easily defeated. If she had known their incompetence earlier, she would have arranged for more people.
She thought she had planned everything perfectly. Once Tommy died, all the secrets would be buried with him, and she could rightfully inherit all of Earl Hills' assets.
However, reality was so cruel. Why? Her heart was filled with confusion and anger.
Why is this person so hard to kill? Why is Earl Hills so useless, failing to seriously injure Tommy in the previous conflict? Why didn't he die at that damned time?
In the final moments of her life, Mrs. Hills grew increasingly angry, and her struggles became more and more intense. But as her strength waned, her movements gradually became weaker, until finally, her eyes rolled back, and the spark of her life was extinguished at that moment.
Tommy stared coldly at Mrs. Hills, who had died at his hands, and his emotions gradually calmed down.
He felt no pleasure in revenge, only a deep weariness and an unspeakable sorrow. He released his grip, and Mrs. Hills' body slid limply to the ground, ending her life.
Tommy knew that from this moment on, his life would be completely changed.
Tommy stood in the luxurious but now blood-stained room of Earl Hills' mansion, his heart filled with endless regret and confusion.
It seems that this time I have really embarked on a path of no return, and there is no turning back.
He looked down at his left sleeve, where his strong arm should have been, but now it was empty, with only a bloodstained strip of cloth wrapped around the severed arm.
His gaze then shifted to his abdomen, where the wound still throbbed, a reminder of the life-or-death struggle he had just endured.
He couldn't help but ask himself, what had he done? Why did things turn out this way? He just wanted to earn more money and improve his life by completing this task. What had he done wrong? He was just an ordinary person struggling to survive.
If Mrs. Hills had never plotted to frame him in the first place, and had never dragged him into this complicated conspiracy, would she still be alive now, and would everything be different?
Perhaps Rhine was right; he shouldn't have accepted the task. If he hadn't, could he still have continued running the firm with his partners, continuing their ordinary but decent life?
But now, it's all over. Tommy knows he now carries a heavy burden of sin, that many lives were lost because of him.
Lord and Lady Hills both died by his own hand. Add to that the lives of two law enforcers, and the two innocent cultists from before, and Tommy's hands were stained with blood.
He knew he was now a criminal, and Nova had no place for him.
He had to leave the city as soon as possible. If he stayed any longer, the law enforcement would eventually find him, and he would not only face certain death, but he might also implicate Rhine and his other innocent accomplices.
Thinking of all this, Tommy's gaze hardened. He knew there was no time for self-reproach or hesitation; he had to act immediately.
He began a rapid search of the count's room, his goal being to find anything of value.
If he didn't have enough money, his escape would be extremely difficult, so he considered these possessions as compensation from the Hills family for the suffering he had endured.
He opened the drawer and took all the gold coins and jewelry, not even sparing the Countess's jewelry.
.........
Feeling the faint magical fluctuations in the air, Rhine walked with firm and powerful steps toward Earl Hills' mansion.
He was filled with doubt, not understanding why Tommy would choose such a place.
Just as he was about to ask Tommy about the whole thing, he saw the figure standing in front of him.
Without hesitation, Rhine quickened his pace and ran towards Tommy.
“It’s so good that you’re alright,” Rhine said, panting heavily, clearly having run all the way. “Things are a bit complicated now. Earl Hills is dead, and this is bound to cause a sensation. The law enforcement will definitely investigate thoroughly. We need to find a place to hide for a while.”
Tommy said in a calm but firm voice, "I killed him."
Rhine was stunned. Although he had prepared himself mentally before coming, he was still shocked when he heard Tommy's answer: "Why?"
"There was no other choice."
Rhine took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down: "Let's leave here first. We can talk things over properly when we get back to a safe place. If things really can't be salvaged, we should go into hiding for a while."
Tommy nodded, his expression remaining calm: "Yes, I'm ready to leave."
"Where?"
"I don't know, I'll just go with the flow." Tommy looked up at the gloomy sky, his eyes revealing confusion and helplessness.
He didn't know where to go; the world was so big, yet it seemed there was no place for him.
Rhine looked at him quietly, his eyes filled with complex emotions. At that moment, he didn't know what else he could say.
Their lives have been completely disrupted, and the future is fraught with uncertainty.
"Say goodbye to everyone before you leave," Rhine suggested softly, hoping Tommy would say goodbye to his friends before leaving.
"No, I have to leave quickly, the law enforcement might have already noticed."
Tommy smiled and declined, a bitter smile tinged with his own. Then, as if making a decision, he brushed past Rhine, preparing to embark on his unknown journey.
"Wait a minute." As Tommy passed by, Rhine instinctively reached out to stop him, but his hand grasped nothing.
He then realized that Tommy's left arm was missing.
Upon realizing that the other person's left arm was missing, Rhine felt a chill run down his spine, and an indescribable pain welled up in his heart.
“Your arm.” His voice trembled.
"Consider it a lesson."
"Remember to write to us after you've settled down."
Watching Tommy's retreating figure, Rhine said, his voice filled with reluctance.
Upon hearing Rhine's words, Tommy waved his hand without turning around or replying.
