Chapter 120 Asking for help

Chapter 120 Asking for help

Leon and Lian stepped into Harvey's courtyard with a mix of anticipation and nervousness.

They carried carefully chosen gifts, ready to spend this beautiful evening together.

However, this joyful mood came to an abrupt end the moment they stepped into the courtyard. A strong stench of blood assaulted their nostrils, instantly weighing heavily on their hearts.

Leon frowned and instinctively quickened his pace, trying to find the source of this ominous aura.

His gaze fell upon a horrific scene: countless corpses lay strewn across the courtyard, blood stained the ground, and the stench of death permeated the air.

Lean followed closely behind Leon, her face turning pale instantly; the scene before her was unbearable for her to witness.

She instinctively covered her mouth and gagged. Luckily, she hadn't eaten dinner yet and her stomach was empty, otherwise she probably would have vomited uncontrollably.

Her eyes were filled with fear and shock; she had never imagined that she would encounter such a bloody scene on such a beautiful night.

Leon suppressed his worry and unease, stepped over the corpses in the yard, and walked into the house.

His face was ashen, his eyes blazing with fury. The scene inside the room shocked him even more; corpses lay in pools of blood, the entire room resembling a living hell. But what brought him some relief was that Harvey and Lady Maria were nowhere to be seen.

Lian staggered into the room, the scene before her making her gag again. She had never seen anything so disgusting. She tried to calm herself, but it was hard to accept.

Lian's voice trembled slightly as her eyes searched the room, hoping to find traces of Harvey and Lady Maria.

"What happened? Where are Harvey and Mrs. Maria?" she asked, trying to remain calm despite the churning in her stomach and the discomfort in her heart.

Leon frowned, his gaze sweeping across the room, trying to find any possible clues.

"I don't know, they must have left. I guess they're alright for now." His voice was low, trying to sound more confident, even though his mind was in turmoil.

Based on the situation at the scene, Leon could roughly deduce what had happened. Seeing this, he couldn't help but sigh, realizing that Harvey and Mrs. Maria probably couldn't stay in Barton any longer.

"Let's get out of here quickly," Leon said, breaking the silence, his eyes revealing a hint of urgency.

He knew that law enforcement or other forces would likely come knocking soon to investigate the incident. Now was not the time to hesitate; they had to leave this dangerous place as soon as possible.

Leon supported Lian's arm to help her steady herself, and the two carefully avoided the bloodstains and corpses on the ground, quickly crossing the yard. It seemed they wouldn't be able to have dinner tonight.

That night, Leon lay in bed, his mind racing, unable to fall asleep.

The bloody scene at the Harvey family's house kept replaying in his mind, and his heart was filled with worry for Harvey and Mrs. Maria's safety. Where were they? Had they safely evacuated Barton City? These questions weighed on his mind like heavy stones.

The situation in Barton is complex, with law enforcement and the Knights' influence intertwined. If Harvey is tracked down, escape will become extremely difficult. With so many deaths, law enforcement and the Knights cannot remain indifferent; they will undoubtedly do everything in their power to find the killer.

After tossing and turning, Leon made a decision. He needed to go to the law enforcement branch, at least to find out their perspective on the incident and the progress of the investigation. Perhaps, he could find a way to help Harvey there.

The next day, just as dawn was breaking, Leon got up.

He hadn't slept all night, and the dark circles under his eyes and his tired expression were clearly visible. He quickly washed up, trying to look more refreshed, and then hurriedly set off for the law enforcement branch.

When Leon arrived at the law enforcement branch, he found it much busier than usual. There were many unfamiliar faces inside, some discussing nervously, others busily organizing documents.

A sense of foreboding welled up in Leon's heart. He sensed the tense atmosphere in the air, as if foreshadowing an impending storm.

He stood at the door of Max's office, his heart pounding. He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself, and then gently knocked on the door.

Hearing "Come in" from inside, he pushed open the door and stepped inside.

Max sat behind his desk, his brow furrowed, his pen flying across a report, his attention completely absorbed by the bloody incident of the previous night.

The unexpected death of an earl and his guards caused quite a stir in Barton, and as the head of law enforcement, he had to handle the incident personally.

When Max looked up and saw Leon standing in the doorway, a hint of surprise crossed his face.

"What's wrong, Leon? Is there something you need?" His voice carried a hint of concern, clearly showing his curiosity about Leon's sudden visit.

Leon slightly adjusted his posture, trying to make himself look more natural.

"I've noticed many new faces among the law enforcement officers lately. Has the manpower been increased?" He didn't directly mention his true purpose for coming, but instead chose to start with such a seemingly innocuous question.

Max put down the report in his hand, leaned back in his chair, and sighed.

"Yes, these were all sent by Duke Chloe. He said that the enforcers are too few people and can't handle everything. He told us to sit down and talk."

Leon pulled out a chair and sat down. "Duke Chloe, the Enforcers branch used to be under the jurisdiction of Duke Adams, but since Duke Adams' unfortunate death, the leadership of the Enforcers naturally fell into the hands of Duke Chloe."

Now the new duke has added a large number of new personnel, and Leon can understand his intentions. It seems that he is not very confident in Max, or he is intentionally strengthening his control over the law enforcement division.

At that moment, a stern-faced law enforcement officer stepped into the office, clutching a roll of notes tightly in his hand, his eyes revealing urgency.

"Captain, the Earl's butler has provided new intelligence."
