Chapter 205: Inspection of the Knights
Chapter 205: Inspection of the Knights
"Dragon, yes, I want to know the story of dragons. When was the last time a dragon appeared in the Gaia Empire?" Catherine looked at the man sitting at the desk.
Duke William put down his pen in surprise and looked at his daughter.
"What does this have to do with the business we're talking about today?" William asked.
"Haven't we talked about almost everything? This is just... chatting. I suddenly became interested in these magical creatures, and I wanted to know if our Bishop family has more records about dragons." Catherine lowered her head, staring at the carved patterns on the side of the luxurious rosewood desk.
Seeing her guilty look, Duke William's heart began to break again - his little pudding would lie to him! !
The study was quiet for a while. Catherine couldn't wait for an answer, so she looked up at her father in confusion, only to see that he looked unhappy.
"You...did Professor Colin say something to you?" William asked softly.
"What?" Catherine tilted her head in confusion, then shook her head to deny it, "It's not related to the homework, I'm just curious."
"Okay." William breathed a sigh of relief. "I'm sorry, dear. I may not know as much about dragons as Kanyon. Haven't they appeared for many years?"
"...I understand." Catherine was a little disappointed. Maybe she should ask her mother.
"Come on, my girl! You will be inspecting the Knights of Light on behalf of George later, so you can't look like this." William once again changed the subject to business.
"You know, those guys are like wolves. You must never show any weakness or timidity in front of them. They won't pity your weakness, but will only think that you are unworthy of being their leader." William's expression was serious.
"I know, and I don't need their pity." Catherine's expression returned to its usual coldness, without any sign of emotional fluctuation.
"Very good, go ahead, kid!" William nodded with satisfaction. "Don't be affected by what those bishops said. No matter what, we can't have a direct conflict now. It's not good for you. We still have to maintain our reputation..."
"I know, I know!" Catherine didn't want to listen to her old father's nagging anymore, so she turned around, pushed the door and left.
The old father was left looking at his daughter's slender back and sighed silently.
……
On this sunny day, the Crown Princess of the Gaia Empire, Catherine Bishop, dressed in a gorgeous black dress, took the place of King George to embark on a journey to inspect the Knights.
The Knights of Light lined up neatly, wearing shining gold and white armor, holding sharp silver swords, and each of them had eyes filled with longing and loyalty to the empire and the gods.
Catherine walked slowly through the ranks, carefully examining each knight, and then, under the guidance of the bishop, she walked up to the podium and delivered an inspiring speech.
"Brave knights, you are the guardians of the country and the symbols of honor and justice. The king has entrusted you with an important task, and I am here today on behalf of the king to inspect you. I am deeply pleased to see your heroic demeanor. I hope you will continue to uphold the qualities of loyalty, bravery, and justice, and move forward courageously for the prosperity and peace of the country."
The knights listened to the words of the crown prince, and endless pride surged in their hearts. They shouted in unison: "For the God of Light, for Gaia, for the king! We will move forward bravely and never retreat!"
The people watching on the side cheered enthusiastically at this time, but Catherine looked at the enthusiasm in everyone's eyes, but she only felt an inexplicable weirdness, which made her feel a chill down her spine in this July day.
Fortunately, the most important part was finally over. After talking with several knights, Catherine was finally able to end today's itinerary.
"Your Highness, Her Highness Catherine!" A voice called her from the side as she was running.
Catherine turned her head and saw a knight between two huge white marble columns, holding a huge bouquet of flowers, looking at her expectantly.
The princess hesitated for a moment, but still walked over.
"May the light protect you, Your Highness." Without waiting for Catherine to speak, the young knight took the initiative to speak and saluted her solemnly.
"You?" Catherine was puzzled, looking at the huge bouquet, thinking about how to refuse.
"I am a knight from the Seventh Regiment of the Knights of Light. My name is Priestley Percy." The knight introduced himself in a very fluent manner.
Catherine's eyes flickered, and then she smiled at him gently, "So that's how it is. I think you look a little strange to me. Maybe this is the first time we meet?"
"Yes, yes!" Priestley stuttered when the Crown Prince greeted him so cordially. "I was on a mission outside before and only returned to Highgarden recently."
"Really? I envy you so much!" Catherine's eyes were full of admiration. "I have always wanted to travel around and see the scenery of Gaia in person. Can you tell me about the beautiful scenery you have seen?"
"Well, it's nothing..." Priestley scratched his head shyly, "Mountains, forests, and rivers, aren't they all the same? Besides, we always have to go into the woods, the view is not good, and there are a lot of mosquitoes, so we have no time to appreciate the scenery."
Forest... Catherine's thoughts raced, but she had to pretend to be innocent. "There are many plants that can repel mosquitoes. Maybe I can help you think of how to use local materials."
"Thank you, Princess, you are such a thoughtful person." Priestley was reminded of the bouquet in his hand by her words about plants, so he mustered up the courage and handed it over. "Your Highness, please--"
Catherine didn't hear what she wanted to hear, so she just glanced at it and didn't answer.
Priestley thought she had misunderstood him, and hurriedly explained, "Please don't misunderstand, Your Highness. I, I hope you can help me pass it to Saint Freya! You are the only one who can enter the Tower of Shining Moon."
Catherine was really shocked. She looked at the young man in front of her again and asked, "Do you know Saint Freya?"
"She once saved me. If it weren't for her, I would have died long ago." Priestley's eyes were full of admiration and worship. "I know she has dedicated everything to the God of Light. I, I just hope to bring a little fragrance to her life of practice, so please help me."
……
"For me?" Freya's surprised voice came from behind the curtain.
"Yes." Catherine handed the flower to the blind girl who was groping forward. The old woman was gone...
"The goddess before..." Catherine asked cautiously.
"Oh... the goddess was too old after all, and her legs and feet were disabled. When she was coming down from the top of the tower, she accidentally fell and broke her neck." Freya said casually, stroking the flowers.
Catherine listened to Freya's tone without any sadness, and her heart slowly sank. She looked at the new young god, who also "dedicated" her eyes and mouth to the god...
"Catherine, what does sending flowers mean?" Freya asked in a cheerful tone.
"Represents...respect, gratitude, friendship?" Catherine said in a light tone.
"Friendship? Did your new friend send you flowers?" Freya's voice suddenly became a little sharp, but the new young god Da was indifferent.
"...What new friend?" Catherine's heart seemed to be grabbed by some sharp claws.
"Canion took her around the city for fun. They said she was the princess' friend..."
"They? Who?" Catherine took a deep breath.
The Saint Lady behind the curtain suddenly fell silent. The tower was silent for a while. Then her dull voice came from behind the curtain, "I want to rest. You should go back early."
He actually just drove people away.
It was a long time after Catherine walked out of the Tower of Shining Moon that she looked back at the holy tower, with worry in her eyes.
